Introduction
A hurricane is a natural disaster that affects people's lives every year. Characterized by strong winds and heavy rains, hurricanes develop over water and cause destruction when they approach the coastal areas of land masses. It is important for people to gain and apply knowledge of hurricanes in order to create evacuation plans and prepare for potential damages.
Challenge
You're the mayor of Sanibel Island, an island off the coast of Florida. It is your responsiblity to determine when the citizens of your city must evacuate when a hurricane hits. In order to make this decision you must be very knowledgeable about what a hurricane is, when hurricanes are likely to hit, the strengths and severity of a hurricane, and ways to prevent damage from a hurricane.
Your first step is to gather information in order to educate the people of your island. The best way to get the information out to your community is to pass out a brochure at the next city meeting.
